This is a 26 year old patient from Murrieta California, interested in breast augmentation for several years. She was referred to Dr. Tom Pousti by one of his previous patients. Results from a prospective clinical study show that the GeneSearch? Breast Lymph Node (BLN) Assay, a gene-based diagnostic test has greater sensitivity than traditional intra-operative methods of detecting the spread of breast cancer to the lymph nodes. In the study sponsored by Veridex, LLC, the GeneSearch? BLN Assay demonstrated overall sensitivity at least 10 percentage points higher than traditional intra-operative tests. The population of breast cancer cells that gives rise to a tumor may be relatively resistant to radiotherapy and may even increase when given multiple treatments of radiation, a new study shows.In the last several years, researchers have discovered a small population of so-called cancer-initiating cells (also called cancer stem cells) in several cancers.
