Chemotherapy And Tamoxifen Independently Reduce Risk Of Second Breast Cancer
Among breast cancer patients, both chemotherapy and tamoxifen independently reduced the risk of developing a second cancer in the other breast, according to a study published online December 25 in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. The risk reduction persisted for at least 10 and 5 years, respectively. For breast cancer patients the risk of developing cancer in the other breast is two to six times greater than the breast cancer risk of the general public. [click link for full article] (more…)
Bevacizumab Found To Improve Survival For Patients With Advanced Breast Cancer
Inhibiting the growth of blood vessels that supply tumors slows the progression of metastatic breast cancer according to results of a large clinical trial of Avastin, an anti-angiogenic therapy. The study, published in the December 27th issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, found that Avastin in combination with chemotherapy significantly prolongs progression-free survival for women with breast cancer compared to chemotherapy alone.
